He showed my picture to his mother and I didn't like the respond. Am I overreacting?

He sent my picture to my mom, and she said, "She is beautiful." He then replied, "Oh really, you're not just saying that so I won't feel sad?" It made me feel weird, but he said I was overreacting. I’m unsure how to feel, wasn't that response a bit odd?

Which response did you not like. Surely it wasn't the "she is beautiful" one from his mom right? If you are upset about what he said in response then I can understand that somewhat. It isn't really a measured response. Maybe he is insecure and wanted further validation. I don't know why but that could be the reason. What was the response from the mom after he said that. I would like to know because that is probably the more important part of it all. What did she say to him saying "Oh really, you're not just saying that so I won't feel sad?" I think that the context of the conversation that you left out is important.

Yea that’s messed up to say about your girl , so what does that tell you? He clearly doesn’t respect you , he just likes the convenience of you , if he truly thought you were beautiful, he would of agreed with his Mom , unless his Mom doesn’t want him being with any girl , and considers her son this prized passion that he does no wrong? So you have to take that into consideration as well. But saying that about your girl , is sadly disrespectful and something you should really reconsider. I am not saying he is a bad guy , I am just saying maybe he is the wrong guy

Maybe he is surprised his mom thought you were beautiful because she usually doesn’t say that about his girlfriends , she is probably very critical of who he dates so she approves of you and he was surprised this time I guess
