Are men scared of liking their female friend and scared of messing up a close and good friendship?

That is certainly a possiblity for a lot of people. Once you try and cross a friendship into a relationship things can get messy. It can start with the other person not having the same feelings. That means things can get awkward. Lets assume both parties do have the same feelings. Then the next problem is once you cross that line into a relationship the friendship is pretty much over. It is hard to go back to that once you start dating. So yes both guys and girls will have a fear that they will mess a friendship up if they decide to profess their feelings for the other person. The worse case is when you get into a relationship with a friend and things go badly. It destroys any chance of being friends again.

So it happens very often. Guys often accuse us of keeping them in the friend zone. But what did they do to avoid being in the friend zone?

If the fear is greater than the desire for a relationship, it may not be worth it.

I had a very difficult experience senior year in high school. We had been friends since we were three or four and the punchline is exactly what Led Zeppelin said in good times bad times "when I whispered in her ear, I lost another friend". It was so DUMB on both are parts and were like acquaintances now but nothing was EVER the same again.

Sometimes? Not really though. It's a rare woman who I think that highly of as a friend that I wouldn't want as a partner.

It's the girls who say this as a reason not to go out with you, but what they're really saying is, "I don't want to go out with you." A girl who is a friend who wants to go out with you or wants to be sexual with you won't worry about "losing the friendship," she'll just go out with you.

Not likely. They're always attracted, if she displays interest they may cower and say they want to maintain the relationship.
