I may be answering your question from a somewhat different angle, but I'll say "yes, in many cases". I'm a gay man who is exclusively attracted to men, but almost all of my closest friends are women.

I'm also a passive partner in my relationships with men, thus acting like the girl in the relationship, so to speak... This has exposed me to men who act as a top or the "real man" in your question. The reason I mention this is, despite having a number of boyfriends, I have rarely seen them exposing any real frailty they might have, including a need for emotional support.

I don't mean to say men, or real men, don't need emotional support. They might very well need it, but probably as a part of their natural identity, or because they have conditioned themselves to act so, they seem rather stoic about something for which I can lose myself and cry for an hour.

I think all humans need emotional support at some level, but demanding it from others is a rather feminine trait. Even more so if they look for it in other females... Men who are that sensitive, and can admit it, are also often in tune with their other emotional frailties and naturally turn gay.

I am eternally grateful for all my female friends and besties, with whom I chat for hours about our lives, feelings, and relationships with men. I don't think I could survive without that and am proud to admit it. :-)

They aren't less of a man, but they would be better off learning to not need emotional support from women. Most women are repulsed by a man being vulnerable and will use his insecurities against him in any argument/disagreement they get into.

Of course we want support from real, natural, biological, genetic women. As long as said woman is our significant other and not some random.
