Ask them questions, learn to tell jokes and stories. I think the big thing with women is to focus on having fun and having a great conversation with them. If you approach someone with the intention to have a great conversation, that's going to plant the seed for more communication with them to follow because they will sense that you are a genuine guy.

Think about it like this; have you ever really felt good walking away from a conversation with someone you just met, when you knew they wanted something from you? Probably not, right?
