If a guy messages you on social media asking if your phone number is still the same, what does he really want?

I am only going to guess that he wants to contact you and trying to figure out if your contact information is still the same rather than message some random girl or worse some dude he doesn't know. That would be awkward so he is checking your social media where he knows it is you versus a number that might not be yours. I know not a lot of people change their number but you never know so he is playing it safe and contacting you where he knows it is you. I'm guessing you crossed his mind and he is reaching out. Why? Only he knows that and I could only guess what he wants. Maybe a chat. Maybe to see how life is. Maybe more. Ask him and not us.

you could follow up with "why do you need my number". Like I said its probably because he wants to reconnect for some reason

He followed up after asking the initial question and asked if it was okay to text me but I didn't respond. He felt confused because although I told him my number is still the same I don't want to text him. Does that make sense?

Ignoring is worse, at least for me. but if you haven't written back yet then just leave it be... If he texts you again just write "Thanks but I not really interested in texting".
