As a computer guy, gamers have always rubbed me the wrong way. They complain all the time about things that it just makes no sense to complain about.

Like the new Playstation being $700 for the digital version vs $800 for the version with that can read disc's (no it doesn't make a difference at all, some people just like putting a disc in there)

Meanwhile, a graphics card costs like $1000.

If you think $800 is okay for a console that has nowhere near the capabilities of a computer? You are smoking some serious drugs.

In a lot of ways, it's way better than a pc. And that's coming from someone who was playing assassin's creed 2 on maxed out settings.

The benefit of a console is that even though you take a hit on graphics, the crossection of price for performance is totally different.

If you want a pc to run a game as good as a console and have better graphics, you'll need to drop at least $1200 not including a keyboard and monitor.

It's the same reason apple does so well. You simply can't compete when the hardware is the same every time. And now they're putting insanely powerful shit in these consoles.

Console also has the benefit of not crashing from memory issues, it's easier to have a netflix subscription and not have your video feed degraded because you're not using the cable it likes. There's no other software running in the background using up your network bandwidth.

You also can't mod, being able to shoot properly is going to be a lot harder on a controller and so on.

Definitely not worth $800. I would rather invest a little more at that point and get a damn computer so I can actually put mods on games like Baldur's Gate 3.

Actually I read into the question more in depth,
Gamers honestly aren’t losing it over the new PS5 being $700…. They are having fun with it making memes, poking at the buttons of the higher ups who made such a greedy decision, and just sharing their thoughts is all.

In all honesty, Nintendo Switches are $300 and handheld PCs are powerful to run PS5 & Xbox games at $600-$1800 like it doesn’t matter. The only market is those who already have a PS5 wanting an upgrade. Have a lovely weekend ahead man, good talkin’ to ya.

All of the BEST graphics cards cost that much. You can get a decent one for a whole range of prices.

Right but my point is, if you want a graphics card that performs better than what you get from a console, you're going to have to spend as much as or more than what the whole console costs. And then a motherboard that will last 10 years like a console is going to run you in another 150 at least. Reliable memory is going to cost a lot and then a psu that won't blow out the electronics everytime you have a power outage is going to be over $100 last time I built a pc, it was hard to find a 800 watt one for less than 200 if memory serves me correct. Then you need a case which will run you in another $80

Sure you can get a graphics card for $200 but you'll be playing lowest settings to maybe squeeze 30 fps out of a game. And that's coming from a guy who usually aims for 28-70fps depending on the game and I don't mind mild screen tearing.

The best graphics cards as I'm sure you know you're talking about dropping nearly a rack maybe add on an extra 500 just to get to the beginning of "the best cards"
