What’s the most mature way to tell someone that you don’t want to talk to them anymore because you find them cruel, even though you have a lot of mutual friends? I don’t want to entertain the idea that I still want to be friends with him. how can I let him know clearly without alerting everyone else?

That can be difficult. I think the best way is to be cordial but also curt with him. Do not say anything that could illicit a reply. If he is not an idiot he should get the message. If all else fails and he distresses you, you will have to get him alone and tell him what you think about the way he is. Use small words, speak slowly and leave nothing to interpretation.
