Why would a guy show interest in a woman, but then ignore you when u show interest back?

A guy I see regularly keeps smiling at me. We’ve never talked. I waved at him one day when he smiled at me and now he igornes me.

There could be any number of reasons but the one that popped into my head first is that maybe he is shy and him smiling was a way to show his interest but he was too nervous to ever approach you. He may have been hoping that him smiling at you would provoke you to come and talk to him... making the first move. Then when that never happened he got bored and gave up. Again that is just one possibility out of tons. I will give another. Maybe he was interested and then he met someone recently and so now he doesn't have any interest or need to talk to you or try and flirt by smiling etc. Just another possibility but only he knows for sure. I wish I could read minds but I can't
