Is having kids important?

When you’re 60 and your friends/colleagues have their x grandchildren can you afford to miss out on that?
Having a family of your own is essential for success. Without it is often a meaningless existence.

For some it is and for some it isn't. For me and the current moment it isn't. I'm working on finishing my last year of my masters degree and then starting a career. For me the last thing on my mind is having a child. Afford to miss out on grandkids? Maybe for some they might be disappointed but I doubt that I will look enviously at them and think darn I really should have had kids. I just have other focus in my life and honestly those that want and do have kids... good for them. I hope they are happy and the kids grow up in a good and stable family. I wish those that go down the family path all the best in life and may they have lots of grandchildren. Good for them... not the life for me.

Not at all for some people. It doesn't invalidate their existence if they don't have kids. A lot of people bring up the idea of the kids caring for them when they are older and frankly I find that appalling. Why would you saddle your children with that burden? They should be living their own lives, not having to support their parents.

That's not true at all, not everyone has the desire and need to have children and a family, it doesn't mean that to be successful you have to have children, there are many people who without children have been fulfilled professionally and in life in general, and families that have not been fulfilled in general.

I, for example, have no goal of having a family, I have other goals, honestly, and since it is my personal choice, I will not look at other people with children and grandchildren with envy.
