Why would a male coworker who finds me annoying/bothersome, frequently make eye contact with me? Why not just ignore me?

I have a coworker who does not speak to me unless he has to, and he seems to be annoyed when he has to work with me, even though that only happens once or twice each week we end up scheduled together. He is always polite, so I make sure not to be a bother, and I leave him alone. What is awkward is that we frequently make eye contact throughout the day, regardless if we are working together or not. His facial expression is always blank. I have heard that frequent eye contact with one person can simply be an acknowledgement that you've noticed someone who you are in somewhat close proximity with on a regular basis. Wouldn't it make more sense for him to avoid looking at me since he does not like being around me, especially in the eyes?

Because you THINK he has some sort of problem with you, (even though you haven't even talked to him about it) that means he shouldn't ever look at you or make eye contact? Evidenty you think you are pretty important or something. This is all in your head, and it should stay there.

Hi! What I meant was that in more cases rather than fewer, when someone finds another person irritating or bothersome to be around, they don't usually want to look at that person or be around them

He definitely does not like working with or being around me at all. I didn't consider that he might be mad at life though. Thank you for your input

I have considered that it could be he is just lost in thought. The frequency of the eye contact is what makes me question if that is just happening by chance every time. I hope you're right though because I'm trying to not be a bother to him, and I stay out of his way.
