It’s probably a trauma response. Whenever my friend was a kid and she would get hurt or scraped, she would start crying and then her parents would rush over and try to make her laugh. It was a well-intentioned attempt to help her forget about the pain, but it didn’t really comfort her and encouraged her to dismiss the pain entirely rather than make it her parents’ burden. Now she can’t process any physical pain without laughing. It’s really creepy and unsettling.
