Have you ever had someone act like they like you and then get all freaked out in a bad way if they thought you liked them back?

This mostly happened to me when I was really young, but I was just thinking back on it and I still find it confusing to this day lol. They would give green flags that made it seem like they might be interested, but if they found out or thought I liked them, all of a sudden they'd change their tune and get all freaked out in a bad way, like avoiding me, acting really cold towards me, etc. Was this a game or was there any logic behind this at all?

Example: Guy would smile at me a lot, go out of his way to talk to me on a daily or near daily basis, repeat some of my mannerisms and ways of speaking (I always heard this was a sign someone likes you I don't know lol), and seemed happy to see and talk to me. As soon as he found out I liked him, he actively avoided me and got an upset look on his face when he saw me. Then a couple of years later when I saw him at a public event, he just stared at me for a few minutes straight. That is just one example, this or something similar happened 2-3 other times.

I stared acting weird around a girl I knew liked me, because I realized I liked her just as much, if not more.

Yeah they want to be in love but they are also scared of it it's an avoidant attachment style
