What does it mean if a guy asks if you have a boyfriend?

Hi there is this guy at my work and we talk sometimes but not a lot. The other day at work he came up to me randomly and asked if I had a boyfriend and after didn’t say anything else and just went back to working. What does this mean? Do you think he is interested?

Some people are saying he could be asking for someone else, but how would I know if he was asking for someone else?

I think he’s interested for himself. He was seeing if you’re in his league.
