Why do guys ask if you are home?

So I get curious why my guys ask if I am home. He usually sees me when he ask. But I have noticed if he went a while to see me he starts asking that and sometimes goes quiet. So he works swings but right now graveyard. Just curious as to why ask if he isn’t going to see me and then go quiet? Is it because he is worried I may be with someone? Or out on the town? Why do you guys do this? His age is over 40

It’s just small talk. Nothing really. Men don’t really like talking, or texting. So it’s just a question to ask to fill in that silence of what shouldn’t say. There may be another reason for it but I think in this station that’s all it is.

Usually If they ask if you’re home it’s because the wanna come see you or maybe you went out and they’re making sure you got home safe
