And nice and sweet but when we are away he rarely texts me or replies or takes 5/6 hours to respond
Is this a sign he is uninterested?

Trending & News Dunno but I do know that the relationship you have with someone in a deep/serious and the one you have with someone you're "dating" and there's been zero talk of any commitment is very different. It just means you have not earned that kind of attention from him and/or he's not into texting.
I am a very romantic type and have never cheated in my life but I had zero interest in exchanging a bunch of text after the relationship became sexual. I honestly thought it was just women who are into writing books on their phones or expecting a message every hour. To guys -- I would think -- texting may be needed to get her but not seen as a relationship building thing. I'm not 20s tho so what do I know.
Back to my first paragraph tho, you need to stop texting him/responding to texts more often than he does. And if that doesn't work for you then I guess you aren't compatible. From his POV, he probably doesn't think he is responsible for your safety/protection so there couldn't be a message from you that is an emergency/that important. He would not think that if you had a deep relationship tho.
You need to tell him that it's important to you to hear from him more often if you contact him -- but I suggest not trying to tell him he needs to start contact more often & don't make it sound like an order, obviously. If he values the relationship then he will change his behavior. But there's limits to it too. It's not like he will switch to wanting to text every 5 minutes if that's not his thing.
I also disagree with those who claim it is never right to snoop on/investigate your boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse. Nah... if they haven't earned the trust it's absolutely okay to investigate. If they told you they will be at work from 9-5 you are totally fine to verify it. Or if they claim to be visiting their mom for 2 hours every night for a week, you'd be a fool not to verify yourself. So... be a little more CIA till you trust things are okay.
Maybe texting isn't his preferred method. I take hours to respond to SO at work.
You know my ex is like that with me when I go to his house to see him we have fun a laugh he cuddles me at night even though I'm not his girlfriend he has one already or when I go home he kisses me on the lips and when we are apart it takes him ages to text back he's either at his girlfriend or busy he says but even if he was into me again as I've already told him I'm sick of relationships and am happy us being friends with benefits and free to do wit a one without drama in my way your girlfriend makes you happy my Uma makes me happy so friends is good enough a couldn't get back with him its to much trouble he can't have a proper relationship he to much of a goer as in he goes from girl to girl in a relationship or not

He's sending mixed signals making it impossible to know what he really thinks.
I would say he is interested in a physical relationship but not a romantic one.
