Good bye grabbing the waist?

Hello guys! Please be respectful when answering.
I am from Peru and he's from the USA with Indian background. We went to a restaurant with all his family ( I was the guide friend and they are my guests) his mother, father, brother 18 and him 21 y. o. So, before we got back to their hotel (they were leaving my country the next day), I gave them to choose one of my notes with a positive message. then the father decided to gave my little notebook (one that i had) to his 21 y. o son so he wrote a dedicatoria / nice remembering note where he also left his and his bro instagram. After all this, when we got to their hotel and his brother (18 y. o) first lightly hugged me, then he (the 21 y. o ) came and the first thing he did was to grab my waist. For me, it doesn't matter which type of hug he intended doing, what matters is that he GRABBED my waist and I frozen out, i didn't do anything, i was frozen.

(By the way, I am 28 years old.)

He probably just wasn’t sure where else to hug you. As a taller man if he hugged you over the shoulders your face could be in or near his armpit and after a long day of sweating who wants that? I don't know if you think about that but It came to my mind immediately.

he is just a little bit taller than me. Not really 185 or 180 cm. And, why didn't he hugged me as before? His byes were more like pats on the shoulder or light hugs just like his younger brother

not my boyfriend. In what I wrote, I'm the local guide and the family is my guest, the guy who grabbed my waist is one of the sons. In case, it is still not clear, let me know

I guess it depends on how tall you are. If you are short, then I guess shoulders would make more sense.

The hug that I got from his 18 y. o brother was quick and light. He (the person who grabbed my waist) stopped for a moment; he wasn't quick.

hehe I was surprised to get a waist grab out of nowhere. The previous times (2 other times) I was with all of them, he gave me a light pat or hug but never a waist grab...

Sometimes people surprise you. I remember dating this girl and the first time I met the mother she gave me a hug around the waist for about thirty seconds and then French kissed me for about ten seconds.

Yeah! If it meant by grabbing my waist that I was special or that he appreciated me and just wanted to have me closer. Then, I am happy because they are like family to me . I hope it means this positive thought :)

hahahha what I will do is if I have a chance, asking his father if this is American culture? I will also mention I prefer not waist grabs because It would seem weird. Weird receiving it from someone I look as a little brother like a puppy or kitten.
