What are the reasons a guy might like you but try to hide it?

So a guy is showing me a lot of signs that he likes me, but in a way tries to hide it.

What could be the reasons for this? And should I approach him and just ask or is that likely to make him feel awkward?

Couple reasons. He doesn't want you thinking he's weird that he does like you

Doesn't want it to ruin your guys friendship in the event you don't like him

Is just shy about it

Now asking him straight up can give you mixed answers. If he doesn't know if you like him and you asked that. He will probably get nervous but he also might just say no. For the reasons I've listed above.

I dont recommend asking if he likes you straight up if you don't even have feelings for him to begin with

If you do like him. Your best bet with a guy like this is either tell him you like him. If you're sure he likes you.

Or if you don't want to do that, just start flirting with him and hope he gets the signs
