Why is he trying to be nice to me?

So I had to stay late to finish up a project at work since most of my coworkers are sick. Was on the phone with my roommate to pick up my dog from daycare since I would be late. A male coworkers who I don’t talk to overhead my conversation and offered to pick up my dog and drop him off at my apartment or at work. Politely told him no since he is a stranger to me and my dog.
why all the sudden urge to be nice?
I even asked him that which he answer, I am just trying to be helpful. 🤨
