I matched with someone on the apps and we had a great first date. He kissed me. And the next day he asked me when I was available. 2 days later he said he got in touch with an ex and they're working things out but that he really liked me and was disappointed because he was looking forward to getting to know me and said I was amazing but that he was going to work things out with his ex. He then asked if we can keep in touch on Facebook. Why does he want to keep in touch.

What does this mean? Am I an option or does he want to see where things go with his ex? What did I do wrong?

You didn’t do anything wrong. It sounds like he wants to keep you in the wings in case things don’t work out with his ex, assuming there really is an ex.

how do I know there is an ex and he isn't just lying?

You could check his social media history to see if he's ever posted pics of her, or ask people that know him about the ex.
