Hey Guys and Gals,

So I've been around this one guy for months... and every time I see this very brilliant, capable guy that everyone I know brags about... he's spilling something on himself or on the table. I've started teasing him about it a little because he does it a lot -- like he misjudges where his hand is going or he's distracted or something. His friends think it's weird behavior for him. MY friend thinks... it's only something he does around me... I make him nervous.

This seems nuts bc we're always laughing and chatting easily, so it makes no sense to me that he'd be nervous OR clumsy around me. I really hope not anyway. He seems to just naturally be a charming-but-clumsy genius type of guy from what I've seen, but because there's a disagreement about this I was hoping y'all would weigh in...

Would a guy suddenly become clumsy around a girl he likes? Why?

General Update:
1. This guy's "lady's man" reputation precedes him, so I don't know that he's the nervous type.
2. We were completely alone together once and he was nervous af. He'd spilt my drink on my dress earlier that evening. On the drive home he took my hand but was chattering on and on, suddenly nervous.
3. He talks smoothly and is so smart, but when he's with me he can't find things that are right in front of him, or he spills food/drinks.
I don't know, y'all. Seems strange.

Well, I totally get what you're talking about with that guy you know! It's super common for guys to get all clumsy and awkward around girls they're into.

I've definitely been there myself before. There's this girl I've had a crush on for a while, and whenever she's around, my brain just seems to shut off. I'll spill my drink, knock stuff over, even forget how to talk properly sometimes. It's so embarrassing, but I just can't seem to help it.

I think it's our way of trying to impress the girl we like, but we end up making a total mess of things instead. It's like our coordination and social skills just fly out the window. Maybe that's what's happening with this guy you know - he's probably really into you, but he's too nervous to act normal around you.

That's actually a good sign though! If he's going all goofy and clumsy when you're around, it probably means he really likes you. I'd take it as a compliment, even if it is a little silly. Just try to be patient with him and give him a chance to get comfortable around you. He'll probably relax and be his normal smooth, charming self eventually.

I know it can be confusing and frustrating when guys act that way, but try not to overthink it too much. Guys just get really nervous and awkward around girls we're interested in, it's totally normal. If he's spilling drinks and forgetting how to function like a normal human being, chances are he's got a thing for you. Take it as a compliment, and see if you can help him get comfortable enough to show you his real self.

I think I was this way in my youth , before I was experienced and thus more confident around girls / women.

There still are occasionally some women that have that effect on me. For me it doesn’t materialize as clumsy is more like saying the wrong thing and and very occasionally my mind will just go blank and normal just until we have a rapport and then it’s fine.

Although , I can think of one woman right now. We have known each other through work about 6 years with physical meeetings throughout each year. she has the most beautiful green eyes. It seems that whe she makes that laser eye contact with me it’s like my brain turns to mush and I become a jibbering wreck , failing to even form a sentence , use the correct terms etc.
if I’m honest I think I’m a little attracted to her in the physical sense so I’m going to put it down to that much like I would suggest for your guy !

I definitely think so. I've noticed that some guys are extremely confident no matter what. But there are some guys that get a little nervous around certain women.

The last time I've witnessed this is when I was buying something from the store. The cashier smiled at me and asked me how old I was. After telling him my age, he made a big deal out of how young I looked and I just smiled at him and said, "Thank you for the compliment Kevin."

He turned red and started getting all mixed up. Told me the price was $87.24 instead of $24.87 🤣. He was like, "Sorry, you have me all nervous!" He dropped a few coins trying to get my change. It was adorable.

Alright so my experience, as limited as it is, would be yes they do. My current boyfriend was cool as a cucumber when we first met, BUT he had some liquid courage, as did I.

Now, on our actual first official date, he was a bit nervous and you could say fidgety or clumsy at times. Dropping silverware types of things. It was cute.

Absolutely, as one tries to hard to be "perfect". Plus, being attracted to someone impacts how you act and influences your words and decisions.

If you invited this person to your home, versus one of your close friends, how much different is your cleaning schedule? How much different is your menu? How much different if your noticing things around your place?

It's too much to take in, but, sadly, focusing too much does make you seem less genuine, which it does, as you make even more mistakes.

Some guys are clumsy and tongue tied around women in general. Some guys are like that around specific women. Some guys aren't phased by women at all. It all comes down to emotions vs confidence. Guys who don't care quite so much, are relaxed, and fairly confident tend to do better than guys who are extremely invested in the outcome before there is even any start to an interaction with a woman. Some men can learn to relax and let it happen. Or not. Some men never get there.

I will confess it has happened to me. Your concentration and focus can become reduced so all of a sudden you are walking into glass doors... ouch. It sure sounds like he may be a bit distracted at times... I would enjoy the compliment. Instead of thinking of fine motor skills he is thinking about you.

Yes. It's not quite as direct as the clumsiness that happens when you're really horny and about to have an sexual encounter and all you can focus on is sex. Everything else gets blurry and you just ignore it so you end up doing clumsy things. I mean a guy really almost loses his sanity at that point and can only think of one thing. But I believe that that is the same force that causes a guy to be clumsy around a female even if it isn't actually a direct sexual encounter.

Well it is distraction anxiousness or sheer clumsy for certain. But if you chat easily then I don't understand nervousness. and if he is not normally clumsy that just leaves distraction.

Even that seems to be hard to understand If you have been hanging around for months but I think we have to go with distraction.

I mean not always but it's not rare at all. It's usually because they're afraid of messing up and looking stupid in front of the girl they like, so anxiety kicks in.

Even worse if it's already a guy who already has some sort of anxiety disorder. If he's anxious all the time in general, and now on top of it a beautiful girl he likes. Lol.

It depends on woman. If the woman like the man too and if the man is sure about that he can be relaxed and cool with her even if he likes her but If the woman doesn't like the man like he likes her or if the man is not sure about what she thinks about him then he may be clumsy.
