Why do guys get awkward around girls?

I've met this guy a couple of times where we talked to each other briefly and I just find it confusing how I find him staring at me at random times, does double takes while passing by, and he basically talks to every girl normally but me. If I'm around...he always gets quiet and serious and always gives me a short reply or takes a minute to get an answer in. Why does he act like this? I want to get to know him better...

(Just from observations he doesn't seem like a anti social shy type...he always tries to makes jokes and act goofy with others, even with some of my friends who he never usually talks to)

to give you the most blunt answer: he likes you. I remember one time I liked this one girl but I can't really explain why but every time she was around I would get not really nervous but I just didn't wanna say anything stupid. haha it sounds stupid but for real that's what I thought. and I am not a shy person at all. I was cool with everyone else and I was known as a loud person. But everytime she came around I just didn't talk as much and everytime she would ask me something I would give short answers because I wanted to seem cool and I didn't wanna say something stupid. If only I could go back to that time. I wouldn't have been such a pussy. I was seriously like a little scared dog everytime she was around. So yeah, this dude likes you. I'm a 19 year old dude so I know what I'm saying.

In my anatomy class I learned that guys get nervous around girls they are attracted to because there is a chemical that is released through the body (I forget the name, it's not testosterone or anything like that). Women don't have this chemical in their body so that why they never get nervous around guys...If I can remember the name I'll let you know

It's because just like some girls get shy around guys they like, some guys get shy around girls they like. He probably is really attracted to you and therefore is intimidated by your presence. Probably doesn't want to fuck up anything because he thinks you're hot or something of that sort. He's probably inexperienced with girls, too. If you want to get to know him better, then smile more, try to reassure him through expressions and body language that he doesn't have to be shy around you, ask different questions about him, but don't push him out of the comfort zone. Just try to be calm and friendly and interested as you usually would and if he can't seem to get past the "i'm 5 years old and afraid of women phase" after less than a month, then just let him be.

It's quite childish to be afraid of someone for such a LONG time if you like them- if you're already in college. Sure you can be nervous or something when you first get to know them (and I mean within the first couple of conversations), But if you can't even look at someone or talk to them within a month of knowing them, then I don't think it's cruel to say they're not ready for a relationship. In the end it'd be in her best interest to pursue someone who isn't like that since she WANTS to talk.

I'm not saying she has to treat him like shit or put him down because he hasn't matured past that point, I'm just saying it's probably best that she doesn't pursue him romantically because she is someone who is ahead of that phase, which is perfectly normal. Nobody should be obligated to stick around & wait it out.

You don't know me, but all I can say is that I'm the farthest thing from cruel & I actually am too TOO nice to people. It wasn't meant to be offensive; I was trying to be realistic.

I thought all girls knew what that meant? But oh well - it's pretty crystal clear, he really likes you; he sounds just like me and he can talk normally to other girls because he doesn't care about them - but he cares about you

Try talking to him, show him you're open to it so he becomes more comfortable. You could also try to communicate online to start with.
