Why does a guy call me baby before he knows me?

Well there could be a lot of reasons. You don't give any context to the situation. What was the context surrounding the conversation you were having when he called you that? You say he doesn't know you but yet you were talking to him. I'm not saying that a conversation means you automatically know someone but again it is the context of why you were talking to him, what the conversation was about and what was said right before he called you baby. Otherwise I am just guessing. So as a pure guess I would say that is just his thing and he probaly does it to not just you but other girls he talks to. Is it weird, sure. Are some people just like that and overly direct? Yes they do exist.

Might just be how he speaks. Some people will call others sweetie. I’ve heard men as well as women call people that. Or honey, hun, dear, etc. Doesn’t always mean he likes you or something. It could be used as him thinking women are softer, more delicate like babies. We tend to treat a lot of women like babies.
