Outside of casualties at work/school/church/etc, I’d say your take is kinda bleak but not far from true at all. I’ve always felt like it’s nearly impossible for an opposite-sex relationship to remain fully platonic from start to finish UNLESS a there’s certain boundaries in place. Such as one or both of them already having an s/o, one not finding the other even conventionally attractive, or one of them are gay/lesbian/etc. Otherwise you can almost always count on lines to get crossed at some point in time.
