Why would a guy push and pull with a girl?

There’s a guy I really like and he has shown signs he likes me too, but he’ll be super keen one day and then it’s like cold/ignore the next. It keeps going on like this and I’m so drained by it.

Like for instance the other day he came to help me with something and he did it, but seemed like he wanted to stay and talk, so we did. This went on for a hour or more and then he eventually left (looking reluctant to go).

Yesterday we saw each other again and he was similar, someone interrupted us, so I left.

Today I wrote him a message, he never responded and acted cold when I saw him. Urghh! This is just one instance, it’s like this on a weekly basis. What gives?

it’s almost like he doesn’t want to like me but does and shows that through how he acts.
