What qualifies as a "booty call"?

Some folks say that a booty call has to be a sexually-charged message sent past 9pm, but others say it's any message sent 9pm-5am (when a person is typically in bed).

What do y'all think?

I've literally never had a booty call in my life lol. But I've had plenty of friends call me past 9pm. I think it's a very strange thing to call any call past 9pm a booty call.

A booty call has to show clear sexual intentions. Otherwise, it isn't one.

I don't think it's something women generally do to guys. (Or not the women I know.) From what I understand it's typically a guy calling with a "How you doin'?" Joey-from-Friends sort of attitude.

Hmm... I don't know. I've had texts at odd hours (usually that I don't see till morning) that are basically indicating the guy is home alone and not doing anything. A few times also very early morning with a clear "I'm in bed" text that I ignore by asking "what's the plan for the day" to redirect from what I personally would consider a bc.

Well, that's what I'd call a potential booty call. Because the way it's phrased is open to interpretation. At that point, it's about how much you know the person. If you know they're just messaging to chill and nothing more, then you'd know it's not.

I don't know why there would need to be a time period involved.

I was always taught not to answer a late-night call bc it's a guy's way of trying to get around to asking if you're in bed, blah blah.

Assuming it's late at night, I would imagine the girl is either in bed, or soon will be, because they need to get up in the morning. Just kind of seems like a lousy time to ask, "Hey, you wanna stay up long enough for me to come over, rail you for a while, and screw up your whole schedule for tomorrow?"

If it's bed time, and we haven't already hooked up for the evening, just save it for tomorrow.

I'm wanting to know what the heart of your question is. I answered what a booty call is in my comment originally, but if you're asking how to figure out if a particular text message is a booty call or not, then I think it is going to naturally have some ambiguity. Just because it's a text message. The greater context would probably give more information. If this is someone you've been sexual with in the past, if it's someone who is participating in the hookup culture, etc., that would incline me to think it is a booty call.

I've never sent one of those text messages, so I don't have personal experience with them. I'm not sure how you can figure out with certainty what is meant without that greater context. But if you have a way to do it then that would be nice.

I think there are a number of guys who send them in a neutral sort of way so that if it's interpreted as a booty call and she approves of it then he can run with the opportunity. On the other hand, if she interprets it negatively, you can dismiss it as a joke, or if she misses the point then he is safe.
