Men actually fall in love with their own effort.

I can only speak from personal experience. It's possible he is over thinking every interaction you have. Maybe he thinks it possible you like him or you are just messing with him. He probably is very inexperienced with women and could have no one to help him. He might perceive you as extraordinarily attractive but intimidating.
