They're all full of shit... Cocky just means "too confident". So it's a measure of expectations and it is all relative. If the guys they dated before where not all that impressive, then that is their measuring stick to measure the next guy. If the next guy is much more capable, they will assume he is cocky because the last guy they were with was less capable, so the assume the new guy can't do what he claims. Women have a habit of underestimating men. So they will think the new guy that is more capable is overstating his position and is "too confident" in himself, even though he very well might be able to back up everything his says and to him that's just normal stuff and no big deal. The bottom line is that women don't want to feel inferior, even if the guy is way better than her at a lot of things they want to be lied to. That's why you have to get in where you fit in. If they have low self esteem and they expect a guy to be a loser and not be able to do a lot of things to be comfortable, then just move on from them and find someone that is comfortable with what you are and what you are capable of. Not everyone is going to be a great fit for every woman.

In a man's mind it's not a competition, he is just being himself doing his thing, but women do compare men to other men. That's were the relative comparison comes in. In order to be "too" anything, there has to be a normal baseline of comparison. Like I said, women get this from the men they have been with before, and also from their father if he was around. What ever male role models have filled said rolls in her life will be her baseline of experience. So, you're the one that makes it a "competition" because you're claiming they are cocky which is "too" confident. It has nothing to do with his behavior and everything to do with your judgement of his level of confidence based on your experience. You are comparing men to one another.

8 moMen who puff up their ego's never developed true confidence and have to put on an act and you ladies can see through it and find it repulsive at its extreme because they are lying, to you and to themselves.
The behaviour is why I struggle to get along with many men like that, a bit of banter can turn into a fist fight because their ego's couldn't take it, even though they like to dish it out and then call you a pussy if you sigh and walk away.
I know you directed your question at the girls, but what does your head in about guys is why I don't have many male friends and for the same reasons.

Arrogance, hubris this turns me off. Egoism is for me just a self preservation strategy, neither positive or negative.
Men have borderlines and bipolar disorder either, I just think sometimes when I see those cocky guys in nightclubs what for depression must they have when they recognize that they are just hopeless clowns.50 Reply
8 moI separate true confidence from cockyness. There is I think nothing that turns me off as much as cokyness. To me it is a sign they are stupid. Everyone else knows it but they are still too stupid to see it themselves. It may have worked when they were 12, but after that it is a no brainer

8 moA little confidence? Attractive.
But cocky and egotistical? Thatās an instant turn off.
Thereās a fine line between self-assured and full of yourself.
Confidence makes a guy magnetic, you can feel it without him needing to brag.
But ego drains the room.
It makes everything feel like a competition instead of a connection.
What actually turns me on is
* quiet confidence
* emotional stability
* a guy who knows his worth without needing to prove it
* someone who treats people well, not like theyāre beneath him
Cocky guys might get attention, but grounded men keep it.
And honestly, thatās way more attractive.30 Reply
Anonymous(18-24)8 moEgoism is always a big turn off.
When it comes to being cocky, it depends what way. If they are rude about it, it turns me off. Some guys have reason to be a little cocky (the intelligent types) and it adds to their charm in a sense. I like self-assured men, whose confidence he has earned.
Teasing them about it is also fun cause they are usually self-aware!20 Reply
8 moNot a girl but I'm surprised to have learned this I used to be cocky sometimes, my ego was kinda high I'm glad I forced myself to change and humble myself down. i see it in people I don't like it either.

8 moBig turn off. Now I understand why Belle chose the beast over the cocky guy, Gaston. 🥱😆
40 ReplyIntellectually women will say no its a turn off, but in practice they are ditching the nice guy for the egotistical one. Because confidence is sexy.. i dont care who you are. Women do this because of instinct, they like confident men. Even though heās toxic, and they say where have all the good men gone.. im not talking about all women im talking about the majority. It is what it is.

8 moA lot of women say it's a turn-ON when a guy is highly confident but a turn-OFF when he is "cocky" (hee hee funny choice of terms).
Can they give examples of a situation that demonstrates the difference, one behavior being confident and another being cocky?

My personal opinion for example is a firemalan š š„ and doctor must be confident in their life or death decision making because people could die.
A cocky guy is all about himself. He thinks his š© doesn't stink but everyone else's does.
He brags about himself and puffs himself up to make him look good around people, when in real life, he's just full of š©!! - 8 mo
Hmmmm... I bet if he looked good enough that you would call "cocky" confident! š
