Is my bf’s best friend flirting with me?

Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend, his best friend (they’ve been close for 10+ years), and a few other friends. I’ve known this guy for about 2.5 years, and until a few months ago he was never touchy or flirty with me.


A few months ago something changed. He suddenly started kissing me on the cheek when saying hello and goodbye. Not an air kiss, an actual kiss where I feel his lips. He’s not a cheek-kiss kind of guy and I’ve never seen him do this with other girls in our group. This never happened in the first 2 years of knowing him.


Yesterday it escalated again.
At a Christmas market, we got separated from the group and stayed alone together for about 15-20 minutes. He didn’t try to find the others and seemed totally fine staying one on one with me. He asked personal questions, played “fuck, marry, kill” with me, and gave me his vape and beer to try even though he knows I don’t smoke much.

Later at a bar, even though there were four of us at the table (including my boyfriend), he mainly talked only to me. He sat right next to me, our legs were touching, and after a while he kept his leg pressed firmly against mine. His fingers brushed against my hand repeatedly in a way that didn’t feel accidental, and he touched my arm and shoulder while talking.

There was intense, sustained eye contact the whole time, like we were in our own bubble. He barely paid attention to the others. At the end of the night, he hugged everyone once, but hugged me twice in a row. He has never hugged anyone twice before, ever.

This is not how he behaved with me for the first 2 years, and I’ve seen him drunk many times before without this kind of behavior.

From a guy’s perspective:

Is this clearly flirting and attraction, or could this still be “just friendly” behavior? What does it all mean?
