Just something that evolved over time. Women carry the bulk of the reproductive hardware. Mostly their lives revolve around child bearing and child rearing. For instance if you look at this thing. If you go into it's computer and look at the lines of code, there'll be a lot of stuff in there about digging for obvious reasons. The number of solenoids, hydraulic pressure relief and so on. It's got a big arm on it and a bucket. A woman has a huge bioreactor that takes up her mid section. You can't see it , but it's there, just like this digging machine. It digs, she carries babies to term. Her personality, like it's software is geared around that function. A man is built for working and fighting also for administrative tasks so he pretty much does all of the rest of the stuff. Instead of a uterus he's got mussel tissue and heavy bone for manipulating the world around him. His brain is built for that too, everything from hunting to building to trading stocks. Men own most companies, they own most property. Not because women can't but because women aren't as interested in these things.

Probably because the curves are different for both sexes. Men of course are more likely to be physically strong. But mentally men have a larger intelligence curve, we have more geniuses and the smartest man is smarter than the smartest woman, but it goes both ways, we have more idiots and the dumbest man is dumber than the dumbest women.

Personally that's not a value judgement to me, I think both sexes excel in their own right but that's probably where the idea comes from.
