Casually ask what kind of people he usually dates. If his description matches your best friend's personality or looks, it’s a strong indicator.

Ask a playful, slightly crazy question like, If you had to date one of my friends, who would you even pick? This frames it as a game rather than an interrogation.

If you have a solid friendship with him, you can test the waters by saying, You two actually have a lot in common, it's kind of funny. See if he leans into the comparison or gets shy.

Start by getting him off balance mentally. Walk up to him and ask if he's ever made love to a man. If he says yeah, you got bigger problems and you needn't go any further. But when he says no which he most likely will. Then you say, "would you like to"? While he's think wtf? Is this woman's damage you say well if not, how bout you stop acting so gay and go over there and talk to my friend.

there's lots of ways to do this XD. I've seen all sorts of ops done to get this answer. I've had friends send in my nieces before to pull secret agent stuff before. Agree to give my nieces their pick of snacks for intel on crushes XD. Only to later blindside them on the coffee date or picknic outting.

One of my best mates got fully blindsided on what was initially just a hiking and picknic only to discover a female mutual friend had gathered every detail of what his dream date would be and he only put two and two together. After she had gone through and literally made every single one of his favorite picnic foods. And his question was how the hell did she get so much intel on him. Later he found out about my youngest niece who's mute and has a bad habit of evesdropping and note taking. XD. Its a bad joke she probably unknowingly knows everyones dirty secrets. XD.

I would just say something like “what do you think of Emma?” (of course use her actual name lol)

DO NOT let him know she is the one wondering, it is YOU wondering or matchmaking whether or not that is true, it is what he should think. But, I don’t think you need to be too indirect in this situation other than that. JMO good luck!

You could always just ask him, "What do you think about so-and-so?" It would be direct, but not necessarily rude.
