He doesn’t have to be deeply concerned, coworkers in general (man or woman) are hardly ever actually concerned or interested in whatever they’re asking you about. We can’t always determine their level of giving a damn though, it could genuinely be good natured so I’d rather treat it like that then to make someone feel guilty for asking.

I’m guessing this is the foreign guy at work who you were paired with. Why does his politeness have to be so painfully abnormal in your life? Why do you have to make such a negative observation whenever he is kind to you? It doesn’t make any sense and you just keep on doing it.
