Do men really mean it when they compliment a girl’s looks or outfit?

So as a woman (and I know a lot of my female friends do this too), when I compliment my friends on the way they dress most of the time I’m just being polite. I don’t necessarily mean that I genuinely love their outfit, most of the time I’m just acting nice and hyping them up. But I’ve been told that 1. Guys don’t usually give compliments unless they really like it and mean it, and 2. When a guy compliments the way you dress or look, he genuinely means it. Is that true?

If I compliment than it is always genuine but it may be different to what caught my eye.

A classic would be I comment on a pendant when I am actually more taken by the nice firm breasts it is nestling between.

A girl I know slightly in my apartment block seemed to have lost a fair bit of weight. I had definitely micro-perved, so it would have been awkward to not make a complimentary remark. Telling her she was too fat before was not not the best message. So I told her she was looking good. It was Saturday so she was dressed up a bit - it all gelled.

If I say you are beautiful, probably I want to get into your pants more than anything... but that is a sincere compliment too when you thing about it.

The compliment is genuine but it may not directly on what I liked about you.

I think it's true in general. But I can't speak for every man. We don't generally do the polite thing. If we think your outfit looks like a clown suit, we'll probably just keep our mouth shut or tell you flat out you need to buy a mirror and use it. 🤣

If I give a woman a compliment, it's always genuine. I've noticed your sense of style or your personality and I'm genuinely impressed. Or you made a valid point and I'm recognizing that. A guy doesn't just toss out meaningless words unless he's some asshole player or trying to be. Most of the time a guy is gonna compliment you on something where he is delivering a sincere message. And we'll wait until we have something real to share.

Yes, generally when men give compliments to a female about something like that, we usually mean it. I think men are more genuine than women. You said it yourself it’s to be nice. I will say even if he’s trying to get w her he genuinely likely the way she looks. Women usually dont like to hurt other women’s feelings. That’s why a lot of them will say Lizzo, when she was bigger was pretty. That she’s a 10. But when you say oh you look like Lizzo they don’t like it. That’s why I said I think most men are more genuine than most women.

If I like her l, I probably like whatever she is wearing. They are doing it more that they like you tham the outfit.

Often, yes—but not always. The better clue is how he behaves overall.
