What does it mean when a guy "promises" something?

I've only ever heard the word "promise" twice from guys...is it just the company I keep or does the word mean something deeper to guys? (hehe, it'd be nifty if it did...easy way to tell if a guy is into you! lol)

well this is tough... technically and psychologically...one can say that the "common" male has this "man's word" engraved by progressive parents ...but just like women, men come in many diff forms. so its hard to tell the sincerity;especially depending on the age of the male ; thus the younger the guy the less of a chance of it meaning something or being sincere. just my opinion

I just think that it comes down to the individual and their experiences. Meaning, if I for example had a parent who always abused the other spouse, I would be inclined not to repeat the event. But then again we are humans we make mistakes things happen, even if he promised not to commit the certain act.

For me, I don't really use the word "promise" that much. basically, when I promise something, I have to make sure I do it, so I prefer to say stuff like I'll try just in case I forget or don't have time,
