Well, the ear is usually a place that people tend to get all nervous about.

When something feels like it's moving in there, or something is put in there, or even if there's a sound that gets close and right in there, it all tends to make someone instinctively uncomfortable. In the case of something going in (especially wet things) or say a buzzing sound, or maybe a pop, a person would normally, by reflex swat at it, or try to get it out, and maybe even make a noise in protest like "Dyagh!".

Why does he do this? Because he's teasing you. He's trying to sort of make you squirm or react, because for some reason, bugging you is entertaining. Sometimes, for some guys, being a pest is just amusing, and made all the more funny when people react. It's pretty much that simple. He's getting a reaction he finds entertaining, so he keeps doing it for his own amusement.

I hope that all this explains things well enough.

Anyway, if you want him to stop, I would recommend just spelling it out for him that this really bothers you, and you want him to stop NOW! If he doesn't stop then MAKE him stop. Make him regret it... or just simply stop talking to him or hanging around with him. Either completely, or until he gets the message that you're pissed.

If he's flirty with you when he does this, then I guess he sees this sort of teasing as him "playing" or "having fun" with you. The point? Pretty much as above, only if by some chance this genuinely bothers you, he may not be aware.
