He's given me small random gifts, he opens doors and does small favors without my asking. He also smiles a lot when he sees me and he likes to make me laugh.

It's funny what an incredibly low opinion men have of themselves and they continuously ask why women go for jerks. Cause in their world any guy being nice just wants to get in your pants. So nice guys who complain you are fucking busted.

How long has this been going on for? He could be a gentleman that has a real interest in you but if you've been together for more than a year and he's doing all this I say he loves you :) Congrats! If its recent he really likes you.

He's known me for many years but this behavior is new and we are not in a relationship.

You could always ask him :) but it could change your relationship. I only behave that way when I am attracted to a girl that I can see as my potential GF or if I look at her like my younger sister or someone I am very grateful for.
