What does the phrase "damn son" mean in this context?

me and a guy friend made out and he accidently told one of his friends. i heard his friend say "damn son!" and then started smiling and nodding at him. what does this mean? why would his friend say that?

I could say it in a more polite way, but it would be a less accurate interpretation if i did.
