I think it has always been peculiar. Think foot binding, corsets or giraffe women. It's just that for the most part those kinds of trends were something for the 1% to worry about. And when people did, if you were the prettiest girl in town, you won. Now almost everyone worries about it and we compare ourselves to most beautiful people from around the world, that we would have never met and will never meet
