How to Live a Fulfilling Life: Finding Peace Within
At some point in our lives, we have all felt unhappy or at war with ourselves. For many, it's temporary but for some it can seem like an unshakable force. Whatever your position may be, know that being unfilled or unhappy is something that you have control over in how you shape your life. Here's a take that I hope you can all find something useful in. Many things mentioned may seem like common sense, but the reality is most people don't actually apply these things.
1. Awareness
Acknowledge when there is a problem. Be aware of the things going on in your life and how you are feeling. Oftentimes, we feel that there is something missing or wrong in our lives without examining every aspect. The more aware we become of our thoughts, surroundings, and habits, the more likely we are to take action and make real changes.
2. Surround Yourself with Energizers
Your network is your net worth.
Who you are surrounded by is essential. Whether you surround yourself with beautiful people or hardworking people, there will be consequences. It has been scientifically proven that we all have energy that we exchange with one another (auras). I'm sure you're thinking "of course we have energy," but this energy includes emotional and metaphysical energy. Have you ever noticed yourself instantly become energized or drained when around certain people? Take note of how other people affect your energy, and ditch the emotional vampires.
3. Balance
Balance balance balance! It is so important that once you're aware of the things in your life and how much time and energy they take up that you find a way to balance these things. I'm sure we've all heard work hard, play hard or all work or all play. Both working and playing are necessary but if one dictates your life, then you won't be satisfied with yourself. The best way to start balancing your life is to recognize your values and your current priorities. Make a list of everything you do or want to do on a regular basis and how much time it takes up.
4. Nature
The earth is beautiful and has provided us with a place to live -- to breathe, to enjoy, to love. Detach yourself from your devices and go out into nature. You'll find yourself being able to relax, focus, and be content. Immersing yourself in nature has been proven to boost the immune system, lower blood pressure, reduce stress, and accelerate recovery from injury!
5. Meditation and/or Prayer + Gratitude
Meditation is a great way to relax, gain focus, and just recenter yourself. Take time out of your day for self care and spend at least five minutes in complete silence, just breathing. You can also just have a moment for reflection and prayer if you are religious. Having time for both prayer and meditation can be of great benefit for those who are believers. In this time, I highly encourage you to express gratitude for the things that you have in life. Fun fact: meditation improves sleep, emotional health, and lengthens the life span.
6. TAKE ACTION! Be responsible for you.
Learn to be responsible for your actions or lack of! Many of us go on about being dissatisfied with our current condition yet we take no steps towards eradicating that dissatisfaction. Set goals and take action towards achieving them. Big or small, action is action and you have to be responsible for them.
