Cold sores can be the bane of some peoples lives. They can ruin dates and make people not even want to go out. But, there are ways around cold sores!
As with anything, the sooner you start treatment, the better. If you start treatment before the blister comes up, it may not even emerge. Start the first day it rears it's ugly head and it can be gone within three days and never grow into a huge unsightly blister and instead stay tiny and dry and barely noticeable.
I will tell you the tools and methods you need.
First thing is alcohol or anti bacterial hang gel. The alcohol in the gel or alcohol itself will dry out the area, and since coldsores thrive on warm damp areas, the dryer it is the better. They will both also help to kill the germs. As soon as you feel the tell tale tingle or see the first signs of a blister, put the alcohol or anti bacterial on it. Put it on throughout the day as often as you can. No amount is too much. You need it as often as possible.
Next method is tea bags. Many people swear by this, but I don't find it as effective as the anti bacterial gel. Seep tea bags in water, take them out and allow them to cool down. Dab it on your lip and hold it there for a while. It must be cool, if it's warm it might just help the virus reproduce and spread.
Milk. Take some whole day milk, and just give your lip a little milk bath. The fats in milk help kill the yucky virus to.
While you're doing these, you can also buy the blister pads and leave them on your lip over night. It's not necessary if you do the alcohol, but any little helps. Only put the pads on after you have thoroughly washed and dried the area.
Following these methods, I've never had a cold sore last more than a few days. I actually got a cold sore 5 days ago, it was massive. I did the anti bacterial gel, combined with tea bags and milk, and by the end of the day the sore was very small and unnoticeable. Now, it's not at all visible.
During your outbreak, it's a good idea to drink through straws. This way, you won't unnecessarily get your lip damp to help the virus thrive.
After your outbreak, throw away your toothbrush and use a new one so you don't accidently reinfect yourself.
