What are the effects of a medically induced comma?

My dad was in a medically induced coma for a couple of days to keep his heart rate down so that he wouldn't have a heart attack.. They didn't take him off of the medicine until they realized he would never wake up.

Anyways, it calms your whole body down so that you are in a deep sleep, pretty much. You still respond to touch, somewhat, like a squeeze of the hand, or tickling the feet. When my dad heard our voices his blood pressure went down, so I am pretty sure he knew we were there, not consciously, but he knew. If you have someone in a coma, medically induced or not, talk to them, be with them, they know you are there.

after a critical illness and intubation and sedation there can be neurological side effects including memory difficulties, personality changes and depression. im assuming you need the MIC for something important?
