I've always wondered what girls envision when they hear thigh gap. Like, how big of a gap are we talking about? 1 cm wide? 1 inch wide? 6 inches wide? And how long is the gap? 1 cm? An inch? A foot?

Based on my google searches, I don't think the media knows what the hell a thigh gap is. And because of that they give a ridiculously anorexic and unattractive body image to women. It's sad, really, how misinformation spreads like wildfire.
When I think of a thigh gap I don't think of that. I don't consider myself to have a thigh gap, but my legs are similar to that.
apparently thats called a keyhole gap. a friend of mine who is trying to get a thigh gap (even though she's fine the way she looks) things that the keyhole gap means she's too fat for a thigh gap. it doesn't matter how many times I've told her that she doesn't need a thigh gap, she won't listen. i tell her if she gets one she'll be too skinny and apparently that statement means i am skinny shaming even though im not. she doesn't get that thigh gaps only look good if they're natural.
people think it looks sexy because of advertising, models, and social media. basically, they're being brainwashed into thinking a gap is sexy. im not saying it looks bad, but I don't praise it either hahaa.
I don't understand the whole craze for thigh gaps. Having a thigh gap is not attractive or unattractive, it's simply something some people have and others don't. It's really not a big deal. Everyone is built differently.
Personally, I do have a thigh gap but that's just how my body naturally is. If I didn't have a thigh gap I wouldn't strive to get one, I just think that's silly. Thighs that touch can be just as attractive as thighs that don't. I just don't understand why so many people care so much about it.

Yeah, I agree. Plus, if someone's body isn't built that way then no matter how fit they are, they won't have one. It's more about pelvis and bone structure than anything else and that can't be changed by working out. Lol

You know, thinking about it, if we didn't place any sexual interest on having a gap between the thighs, we would probably consider it to look really gross and unhealthy. However, since the trend started with a perspective of it lending women increased sexual appeal, we consider it to be desirable. Oh the things a cultural perspective can do!

I wish people would shut up about it. It's the most pointless, overhyped, non issue of a trait I've ever heard anyone talk about. I had never even thought about it or registered the notion that some girls have thigh gaps until I started seeing insecure girls blathering about not having them. I can't for the life of me figure out where they get the idea that guys want them.

Yes, when I ask them why they say 'cuz all my friends have one or are trying to get one' I haven't met 1 guy in real life that actually cares for them.
I think I'd have a thigh gap if I didn't weigh as much as I do. If I got super skinny I'm sure there would be some space down there. Right now though they're kinda on the fat side. I really do need to lose weight. :P

I wouldn't need to get hat skinny. My bone structure naturally is built like that so if I lost a few more pounds it'd show. My body just naturally deposits more fat in my thigh/hip area so my thighs are pretty big. Lol They look like those sea lions that come ashore to relax when I sit down. Oh these blubbery thighs of mine. >_<

Literally no one gives a shit about the thigh gap or lack thereof. I've always heard guys discussing about how hot a girl's butt or boobies were, I've never heard one talk about how hot a girl's thigh gap was.
unless its natural then its a bad thing because the girl is likely too skinny and no one wants someone is too skinny. if you have to lose weight to get a thigh gap then chances are its not natural. I've never understood it either.

For me, thigh gaps aren't so much "Yay" or "Nay" as just IRRELEVANT. Thigh gaps don't mean anything, other than some people's skeletal structure is slightly different.

It's kinda like muscles, a guy doesn't need them to be in shape or healthy, but it's an obvious sign they are. Thigh gaps are the same.

Slimness is a good indicator of fitness. Especially since obesity related heart disease is such an epidemic.
By the way, just because you're a fitness trainer, doesn't mean you're fit. It's not even a good indicator of fitness. Slimness is so much more an indicator than a job title you can get credentials for, for only $300. The fact that you try to claim that a job title is an indicator of fitness and thigh gaps are not, is among the dumber things I've heard.

You can be slim and out of shape and you can be thicker and in shape. Did you know that? Probably not.
I'm not talking about obese. And yes being slim is usually an indicator that you're in shape but, not everyone who is slim is in shape. Not even close to that.
Don't tell me that a fitness trainer is not in shape. That's the most fucked up thing I've ever heard. It's like saying a model is ugly.
Thigh gaps do not come from being in shape. It comes from either being extremely skinny (like gaunt) or your bone structure and pelvis is made that way. So NO a thigh gap is no indicator that a person is in shape.
Maybe learning a thing or two before you argue would do you some good.

You can't comprehend the idea of an "indicator" can you? There's statistically a much higher chance that a slim person is in healthier shape than a person who is not slim. That's an anatomical relationship where the two factors are highly correlated.
There is no correlation between a job title, and fitness. You're grasping at draws when you seek to draw a correlation between an area of study and your physical anatomy. Particularly when being a trainer doesn't necessarily constitute a need to be fit. www.ideafit.com I know particularly for my state, there are significantly more out of shape trainers than fit trainers-- I'd assume it's similar throughout the nation.
Maybe saying "you need to learn" isn't a good argument when you have to resort to it has a counter argument twice in three posts. Believe me, I'm far more educated about health and fitness, AND math, than you'll likely ever be within your lifespan.
1st paragraph - I agreed with you. I think you just want to argue. All I said that a thigh gap does NOT mean you're in shape. Argue with that all you want but, that's the truth.
2nd paragraph - a person who works out for a living is bound to be in shape. I don't know where you're from but, every personal trainer I know is in shape. It would be kind of hypocritical if you had a personal trainer who was out of shape. Don't make assumptions. (Also I have no clue what the link had to do with anything)

Since your profession is to instruct rather than to exercise, it's not that far off to see the dissociation.. It's no different than nutritionists who often eat in excess. There's a far cry's distance between being an instructor and the performer. Especially when you consider most personal training is paid for by people over 40 for themselves and/or their kids, there isn't often a prerequisite of fitness achievements. Could your basketball coach drain 3s all day? Could your soccer coach run the field for an hour? Could your cross country coach run a sub 5 (mine could, but it's rare)? Could your field coach throw discus competitively? Could your track coach run a low 11s 100m? For most people, most of their coaches weren't physically good at the sport they taught.
In shape-- you'll have to define it for me since it's a broad definition and yet you clearly have a more specific definition. I don't know what bias picture of six packs comes to your mind, but the largest factor of being healthy in terms of longevity is simply being active and not fat. And if you noticed anything about society and aesthetics, you might of realized what a typical guy considers to be "in-shape" looking, is simply not fat. So in terms of health-- slim is good. In terms of female aesthetics-- slim and "in-shape" are practically synonymous. Especially since females have higher body fat percentages that cover their muscles.. meaning there's not much aesthetically different between a girl who workouts to be slim, and one who simply doesn't eat much.
I agree with you to an extent. Most coaches were former players so that's not always true.
A lot of my work I do is giving classes, to groups so I'm constantly moving. In shape for me means, when I tell the class 40 jumping jacks and a girl is huffing and puffing after 20 she's out of shape! And a lot of times they're slim, it has nothing to do with that it has to do with your stamina. Yes usually the girls who are bigger are more out of shape but that is not always the case. And to say that a girl who has thigh gaps is automatically in shape, that is so wrong and shows a lack of knowledge (not directed at you)
I'm completely in shape, my legs are completely toned and I don't have a thigh gap. It's not my bone structure. So I find that it's stupid and unrealistic for girls to cry about that when it means nothing. If you have it good if you don't that's also good.

Having a thigh gap and/or being skinny is not in any way a an indicator of good health or fitness. Most models (mentioned because they are the source of the thigh gap fad) are underweight by medical standards and are not healthy. A lot of models maintain their thin figures through binge dieting, starving themselves, vomiting up their food, smoking cigarettes to suppress their appetite, or a combination of those things. They rarely follow nutrition guidelines and work out.

You not comprehending the difference between individual cases and statistics at large doesn't make me wrong about indicators @dandeus Just because some people are undernourished who have thigh gaps, doesn't mean the majority are. Considering there are less than 2% of Americans classified as "underweight" and approximately 70% classified as "overweight".. you're incredibly off base suggesting being underweight is unhealthy. Unhealthy against the ideal perhaps, but compared to reality? It's quite healthy. In fact, it puts you in the top 30% of healthiest people in the USA. Not to mention being underweight isn't nearly as disastrous as you claim. Check these stats:

There is so much life threatening damage associated with being fat, and very little proven with being underweight, let alone simply being slim (which is categorized as normal weight). Based on these stats, being underweight makes you healthier than over 70% of the nation.

I'll break it down super simple, for you guys since it's clear no one here is good with statistics (variables, correlations, relations, etc..). We have all agreed and concluded that a thigh gap has a strong relationship with thinness, in fact even suggested that thinness causes a thigh gap --> 70% of the US is overweight --> Thigh gap puts you in the other 30%--> The healthier 30% Conclusion, there is a correlation between thigh gap and health. As the Answerer suggested, despite the responders protests otherwise w/o any factual reasoning whatsoever.
Point numero dos:
Thinness and fitness look a lot alike! Women hold higher body fat percentages then men and muscle is layered UNDER fat. Therefore, fitness isn't as noticeable in women. So thinness appears to be "in-shape" just as much as fitness would from a visual perspective.
And I do not agree with you. So why don't you just get over it? Seriously you're harping.

No, mostly what you're saying is correct but, it has nothing to do with my question and you're getting too angry.
I simply don't agree with the fact that having thigh gaps is a sign you're in shape or that being thin = having thigh gaps. It doesn't work like that. Thigh gaps are based on bone structure and the pelvis. Very simple. You can have someone who's in amazing shape that doesn't have a thigh gap and you can have someone who's not in great shape and yes that could mean she's skinny, skinny doesn't = great shape that does have a thigh gap.
That's all I said until you went on a 'overweight' rant. I don't promote being over weight or underweight, I promote a healthy weight.
And the thunder thighs comment was HIS comment, he was the one who went to the extreme.
Oh and yes, to me there is a BIG difference in a person who is naturally thin (fast metabolism) or thin because she has a good diet/work out regimen
