Have your blood tested and mention a concern for hypothyroidism, particularly of interest, your TSH. The TSH levels in your blood are a very accurate predictor of this condition, and can be done with a simple blood test.
Review the results with your doctor and if you do have hypothyroidism, he can prescribe pills that correct the condition.
Sometimes it is life long, sometimes it is temporary. There is also a running theory out there that progesterone (found in some birth control pills) may influence this and moving to an estrogen only based pill could potentially have mitigational effects but the jury is still out on this and no medical practitioner will officially say either way about that until more is known. If you are healthy enough to switch, then you could use yourself as a guinea pig and find out =-)

Many pharmacies/"drug stores" have blood pressure machines you can test yourself on for free.
Don't get all excited diagnosing yourself based on what you read online. Unfortunately even dieting an excise isn't guaranteed to make you lose weight, if your lucky though some of you weight that was fat before might now be muscle, which weighs more than fat for it's size... has your weightline, etc increased?
By all means mention your concerns to your doctor, but don't be surprised when they want to consider more likely options first.
