Why don't guys protect their nuts in basketball?

Just found out guys don't wear protective cups in basketball. Why on earth would you not protect your most fragile and most prized parts? A guy at my school took a blow to the groin and suffered testicular torsion (twisting of the spermatic cord) during his basketball game. A guy playing basketball in his PE class in the private school near me had to have surgery down there after someone accidentally stepped on his family jewels during a scrum beneath the net. Injuries happen and yet protective cups aren't worn in basketball? Why?

Basketball is not a sport in which the aim is at the body of participants. Plus, the ball is pretty big meaning it's not easy for it to get in and really provide direct contact with the nuts. I play ice hockey and we all wear cups. It's a contact sport, the puck is hard and small meaning it can get in there and provide strong contact. I once did not insert my cup very evenly and of course that was the game when I got hit by the puck. I was somewhat curled on the ice for a few minutes and had to get dragged onto the bench. Couldn't finish the game. Since I still at least had my cup installed I did not suffer any injuries. If I didn't wear it at all then I would probably require surgery.

Look up rugby cups are optional and in my case I didn't wear one because it slowed me down and felt uncomfortable felt if be safer. being fast and agile then slowed down in that sport they catch you with the ball your going to wanna run quick and pass the ball ASAP if you know your getting g taken out

Yikes! Rugby is rough. How are your balls still ok? Lol I hope they are. I get the trade off but I mean these are your family jewels... one bad hit and one or both could rupture and then you'd be balless

I'm good actually they function well worst thing I ever got from rugby Ia cracking bones and a very rough concussion where I saw patches of white light in my pitch black vision I had no clue which way I was walking think that's the closest I ever came to dying

It’s weird, isn’t it. What’s weirder is that girls tend not to wear cups during basketball either. The vagina is the weakest, most fragile part of the human body - more vulnerable and sensitive than even the testicles. It requires protection because even the lightest hit will bring the strongest woman to the ground. We need to protect our hilariously flawed anatomy.

well the sport doesn't exactly involve being kicked there or having a ball that could b directly thrown there. it really doesn't or more like shouldn't happen often at all.
sorry to hear bout ur friend, that sounds horrific=/ but like i said, that is extremely rare and it would have had to be an unfortunate set of circumstances involved to result in that=/

it does get rough! And balls are a guys most valuable possession. It seems like they'd rather be safe than sorry! But yeah the groin injuries were pretty horrible. I can't believe the injuries aren't more common though with guys choosing not to wear their cups

yeah i understand, but it's the nature of the sport that makes it less likely.
in a sport like cricket or baseball then it's obviously much more necessary.

Basketball isn't like Martial Arts or Competitive Fighting were the nuts are an actual target in basketball no one is actually expecting to get nailed in the family jewels and it happens so rarely that the need to make everybody wear a cup ( which is uncomfortable by the way ) just isn't there.

Hmmmm well they should seriously start making comfier cups cuz if those guys had been wearing cups they wouldn't have been injured

Let me tell you from experience there is a very, very low chance of that happening I happen to be a martial artist and I've personally been kicked in the groin about two dozen times both with and without cups even once without a cup by a 200lbs man full strength.

Well, your balls rarely get hit while playing basketball. I play all the time, and it's only happened to me a hand full of times.

Nothing too serious either, you just have to be unlucky for it to happen.

Most of the impact happens in the upper body. So unless someone is trying to land a shot on your nuts, it most likely won't happen.

It's not a full contact sport, and the way the game is played doesn't provide many opportunities for injury to the nuts. Accidents happen from time to time, but contact is infrequent enough not to warrant a cup.

It should be mandatory in most if not all sports. In particular when there is or could be contact.

Accidents don't happen enough for a need to wear a cup. I've been hit in the balls, but it was never anything serious.

There's lots of contact. In fact a lot of guys wear mouth guards! Just watch the NBA! And these guys got injured pretty badly. Everyone keeps saying it's not a contact sport but I guess I'd rather be safe than sorry

Yes, but when they play they don't aim the ball at the ground so their groin isn't in much danger.
