Do you really need extra protein after exercising, (bars, shakes and so on)?

As someone who actually does a lot of research in the nutritional science field, I can tell you that there is absolutely no scientific basis for the anabolic window theory, which implies that you need to have a protein shake within 30 mins of weight training. That theory is simply a theory without any real scientific evidence and it really makes no difference (sorry guys). What science does tell us though is that as long as you get in all essential amino acids within a 48-hour window, muscle building and reparation will happen no problem as long as you eat a calorically sufficient diet. Timing your meals or protein intake is unnecessary and just overcomplicates nutrition. Protein really isn't an issue when it comes to health. There's protein in every single fruit and vegetable, so technically you're always having protein no matter what food you eat. Just eat healthy, eat enough calories, and you'll be fine. A lot of people like to say that they're "educated" on nutrition, yet they rely on fitness websites that don't cite their sources as to why they advocate for the things they do. I they do cite their sources, they were usually funded by some corporation within the fitness industry or they weren't scholarly, peer-reviewed articles published in a medical journal. Sorry for being a "know-it-all" lmao but I just really hate when people trust advice without credible scientific evidence just because the dude who told them this had big muscles.
my bro keeps this giant, no really, GIANT case of protein with him at all times and he's pretty buff so I'm assuming it helps
Not really.
The post-exercise nutrient intake is bogus.

As long as you eat within 3-4 hours of your training you body is NOT gonna catabolize your muscles.
The nutrient window is a scam to sell supplements.
As long as you take in 20-30 grams of complete protein every 2-3 hours , doesn't matter if it's a shake , a bar or a small meal.
In the end of the day as long as you reach the 1g of protein per lb of bodyweight requirement you are GOLDEN!
Unless your trying to become a pro body builder you don't need all those supplements. I've done the whole pre-workout and post-workout routine and it can get very expensive after awhile. Now I mainly just try to eat a lot and add a shake every once in awhile.
True, sounds smart!

I get my protein from actual food--not the candy exploitative companies sell as "protein" bars and that nonsense.
Whey protein is legit, although you have to read the nutrition label to ensure you aren't getting something loaded with sugar. This is a good brand:

Other than that, it's a waste of money.
But protein is necessary, because it helps rebuild the body after working out. Working out breaks down and injures the body, protein rebuilds it bigger and stronger. Protein is necessary--just real protein, and not BS products like protein bars (which are mainly sugar).
I don't know who is downvoting, but protein is a necessary element of a diet. You need carbs, fats, proteins, and fibers. Your body just straight up needs it. Getting it through actual food, rather than BS supplements, is best. Whey protein is the only supplement that I would consider, although it is still best if your diet is all natural rather than supplements. If you disagree, pick up a biology book and stop being ignorant.
i think you should buy a low calorie protein supplement, preferably a big container with powder. you will save a lot of money like that
I recommend, https://www.gobsn.com/product/syntha6isolate.html
do you need protein supplements? no you dont, but you should be eating, protein rich food after your workout, chicken, steak, fish
you should be eating 0.5 to 0.8 grams per pound of body wight yea the extra protein will help just get your self a big tub of protein from like Walmart for like 20 bucks you should also ask your personal trainer for some advice or eat a lot of egg whites good protein low cal
Look at your goals, where you are and where you want to be. I am a distance runner, and a good rule is 100 to 200 Calories back into your body during the run for every hour you run, (I've ran 5 hours plus) Protean after a strenuous workout, but not at the levels some supplement companies would have you think (a good peanut butter sandwich, or lean meat sandwich would be plenty) , and carbs before.
Honestly though if you are eating a healthy balanced diet with lots of water you will be fine.
no you don´t. they just want to sell you this shit... it has a "little" effect but it´s not huge.
this is different if you´re a pro body builder. then in this case everything you eat you eat solely for the purpose of maximising your gain. in this case those shakes make a lot of sense.
Most (knowledgeable) people supplement protein right after, or in the middle, of their workout to help with the post-workout recovery and rebuilding of the body, basically. If you eat after your workout, you should be fine. If you don't, a shake or bar is a good way to fit in that kickstart if you can't get to a meal in a decent amount of time.
Yes you do actually need right after your done working out is in fact when your body needs it the most and it is also when it is most easily absorbed.
You don't need any of that. It's pure marketing to make money off of gullible people.
I'd say avoid protein or you will get "full" in the wrong places
all that protein you eat won't matter if you don't drink enough water
Absolutely no! They do more damage than good. Instead you should eat right and get the all right nutrients through your food.
it would help to have protein straight after exercising
Not AFTER. BEFORE! The exec rise is what builds up the muscle!
no... they're not ESSENTIAL basically... so nope
Mo you do not.
