Why do some people have a higher pain tolerance than others?

I sometimes feel like my religious experience isn't real because I live in a middle class neighbourhood and don't have serious probems like famine, starvation, war, disease, crises at home, or humanitarian missions etc... I admire people who raise funds for charity by climbing mount everest or become soldiers in the army and want to help their country - I don't think I would have the courage to die for my beliefs or perform physical acts of extreme difficulty and my lack of strength seems to dim down my religious faith. Why do some people have more tolerance than others?

I think it's often because they've been through a lot and have needed to be tough to survive.
Can you imagine having been born in Syria 15 years ago? The only thing you'd have seen was war, war and more war. Being hungry, thirsty, afraid,...

I only have a high pain tolerance to certain things. if you even think about pinching my calf though.. fuck off!! lol

but now reading the rest of your description the title doesn't seem to make sense. hmm.. well maybe those people didn't have much of a choice, you do.

I don't know. I don't feel pain that much. Only when I had a ovarian cyst. That would hurt any girl though. When I got my ribs tatted it didn't hurt at all. I Know men who had a lot of pain from if

Genetics, medical problems, something in ther mind, or because they were trained...

It could be their nerves are less sensitive or psychologically the things you mentioned about dealing with wars and fighting for causes etc. because they are used to it and have been in tough positions before mentally.
