Can black people get a sunburn?
Can black people get a sun burn and would it be visible (other than maybe skin peeling) ?
Geez how stupid. I'm guessing you mean very dark skinned blacks, right? I mean, you do know blacks' skin colors vary widely, right? From actually pale to extremely dark and every shade in between. Just like any other peoples, some black can barely go out in the sun even for 20 continuous minutes without burning severely ( actually know a black girl like that) and others can stay out for relatively long periods and just tan. Dark skinned people (whether they're considered black or not) since they have more pigmentation will take longer to be negatively effected by exposure to the sun. But human flesh will eventually get burned by the suns radiation I don't card what color it is. It will burn, hurt and peel just like anyone else's. It's just a matter of time. Sheesh.
i don´t think it´s stupid. there are not many blacks where i live and since i know that the more melanin you have (the darker your complexion is) the more resistant you are to sunburns.
sure it will burn at some point but maybe you´re just that resistant that you don´t burn in a day of direct sunlight.
Then is your question "do darker skinned blacks get sun burn"? Or "How long does it take for darker skinned blacks to get sun burn"? And maybe clarify that you mean the darker skinned of blacks. What we call "blacks" here and in Europe are negroes and not the only darker skinned people in the world. Not the only brown or tan skinned either. Because when you say "blacks" or "black people" that covers a wide range of skin colors meaning varied levels of pigmentations and therefore different rates of effect from the sun's radiation.
i´m not writing a scientific paper here :D it´s just for fun...
it´s all good dude!
Yes. I when I had saltwater on me from Seaworld and being in the sun I actually got one on my forehead. Couldn't believe it. Other than that I haven't gotten one just being out side though.
wow i´d love not worrying about this... on a scale from 1 (almost like a tan white guy) to 10 (almost perfect black), how dark is your complexion?
I'm probably a 7. More a milk chocolate color than dark haha.
still close to never a sunburn... awsome!
Not a sub burn but we tend go get darker in the heat.
The only black person I've known to get a sunburn was my albino friend who had no melanin in her skin.
People with no melanin get burnt.
Those with melanin (although some very light) just get a darker complexion.
is it bad that i find the word "albino" meaning a human kind of funny? XD
If you have skin then you can get a sunburn. My dad got them all the time. I have darker skin and have need gotten one.
yeah but i could imagine that if you´re really dark, a day of sunlight might not be enough to burn your skin so it never happens.
It's not. Back in my highschool days we took a trip to the Bahamas. There was one part of the trip where you lived on a boat for three days and it was a small boat on the ocean so you didn't want to stay below desk because you'd get sea sick. I wore a little bit of sunscreen and stay on top all day and night (even slept on the boat deck at night). Never burned an I'm not super dark I'm just like a milk/semisweet chocolate
cool that´s convinient.
i don´t care for what´s "in" anyway.
Yeah, but you would have to spend a very long time outside. We tan a lot before we burn.
for me it works the other way around. first i burn then a turn dark. i get pretty dark for a white dude :D

Anyone can get sunburn, including black people. However in the case of black people they have more melanin in their skin which equates to more protection from the sun's UV rays. So while they can get sunburn it will take much longer for their skin to reach that point when compared to a pale skinned person.
But yeah, anybody can get sunburn, it's just that some gets it sooner/later then others.
As a black male I am EXTREMELY offended that you even DARED ask a question about blacks.
I'm personally gonna see to it that hang for your crimes, you racist pig.
fair enough :D
Why do prople want to toss that word about so recklessly. "Racist"? The guy wants to know if dark skinned people get sun burned. Irrelevant? Yes. Obvious answer? Yes. Racist? Please. Surely not. Either way this question does not make him "racist"! Not even racially prediced (which is different than "racist"). At worst he toying with something some people might be sensitive to (their skin color) but clearly he had no malice in his intentions. Intelligent people can easily see that. Would explain the comments from blacks here being very cordial and light. They're not offended at all. Take your race baiting elsewhere.
if they have low melanin or covered in a substance that helps cause sunburn yes. if under normal conditions no we just get a tan.
Yes they can. I've had it before. And yes it was visible. Especially when it started peeling.
you are of the brighter variety though so i guess it get´s visible red on you then?
Well... what constitutes as "brighter variety"?
well this would be "dark" d39ya49a1fwv14.cloudfront.net/.../Grace-Sarfo.jpg
well it depends on where you live ;) black people are very rare, where i live... but when you see a black person it´s likely one who´s that dark.
Yeah we can. If you are out there long enough anyone can xD no matter how dark.
Not sure. Apparently I can tan. The skin on my chest is weirdly pale.
is it some pigment disorder? or just brighter than the rest?
yeah i guess that´s normal if you´re not a douche that runs around shirtless all day.
Yeah they do but it's a lot less likely to occur due melanin. I'm brown and never got sun burnt
nice !
They can But is really rare. Black people have more Melanin and they can Stay in the sun more. Its a fact.
No the pigments in their skin don't allow them to.
yes it is possible
