666 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. I'm vegan. I like other vegans and vegetarians, though I don't really understand the reason for staying vegetarian. I mean, the dairy industry provides baby calves for the veal industry, and baby chicks get ground up alive in the egg industry. Dairy is not only worse for your health than meat is, but even more cruel to the animals and much more devastating to the environment. It's hard for me to understand, but I guess it's because of the fact that when you eat meat you see the physical result of death right in front of you. You see the muscle, flesh, skin, veins, cartilage, and bones, so it's harder to deny the fact that you're eating the body of another living being who wanted to live just as much as you do. With dairy, it's easy to disconnect yourself since they make it so pretty looking and you can almost imagine that it's a vegan alternative, but in reality it's worse than a steak. So I get it... cognitive dissonance is a bitch doee.

I am a vegetarian since I'm 13 and I'm kind of proud to have finally made it out of the 'my parent's being convinced it's only a phase' - phase.
Most annoying about being a vegetarian however are all the people asking you 'why', like I just don'T understand why they even ask? I don't ask them why they eat meat either, right? ><'
I've tried to go vegan several times but always found that I just couldn't live without proper, dairy yoghurt! Yum :)00 Reply
+1 yIf they are preachy and pushy as many of the ones I have encountered are, I don't think to highly of them. That isn't to say all, but I do think some are vegan/vegetarian for the wrong reasons. Humans are omniviourus and it is actually health to eat meats. Now here in america we tend to eat meats as a main course when it should probably be more of a side dish (this is where the misconception about meat being bad for you came from) so when they get pushy about the health aspect of it they completely ignore the facts. If its for religious reasons then that is respectable. If they don't eat meat because they just don't like it then that is also respectable. I knew a guy who refused to eat meat because of all the hormonse and what not in it which is also respectable. So basicly, as long as they have a reasonable explanation for it and don't try to push it on me then I don't really have a problem.

+1 yI'm not vegetarian but I know someone who is. He's just like any other person. He just prefers to be vegetarian. I think my brother also went vegetarian last I recall.
I don't know any vegans myself. I may have met one way back like a ridiculous amount of years ago but can't 100% remember. I will say though from what I've read the outspoken vegans seem to do a lot of harm to their reputation. The outspoken vegans are almost "cult-like" and the arguments I've seen them get into are quite heated. From what I gather information wise. Normal vegans are just like the vegetarians in terms of just choosing what they eat for their personal reasons. But the outspoken vegans are quite... "out there."20 Reply

Anyways I am okay with my future girlfriend or wife being one as long as she doesn't try to make me one personally from my experience from what I have observed vegans and vegetarians try to force others to become vegans or vegetarians just like them. By the way if you're a vegan could I ask you a question are you aloud to eat insects?

+1 yI eat anything and everything - simple as that. I'm born in a family which is strictly vegan since when my family line would have started. Nothing to think about it (they think about me i. e. judge lol), it's an individual choice :)
10 Reply I'm a vegetarian since a year now, I'm just a normal person that doesn't eat meat, I respect anyone as long as they respect me and my decision and I don't push it on anyone, but if someone starts laughing at me I get pretty serious.

I think overall they are not as physically able as a person who has a varied and balanced diet. Ever watch Naked and Afraid? check out how the Vegetarian and Vegans do.00 Reply
Anonymous(30-35)+1 yI've been a vegetarian for the last 13 years and was a vegan for about four years, but had to go back to being a vegetarian due to the lack of vegan meal options in my current location (yea, I'm too lazy to cook my own meal, don't judge me).
10 ReplyI've been a vegetarian for about a year now. When I was 8 my friend told me that her and her mom didn't eat meat and I thought she was crazy now I'm one..

vegetarians: just why? you don´t want animals to suffer right? then go vegan!14 Reply- +1 y
Being a flesh eater, I totally understand that. But still if I make up my mind one day, I will definitely go all the way.
Asker+1 yI'm vegetarian, but my choice is not ethical. I just didn't feel confortable in eating something that once was alive and I never really liked meat either... So yeah, I'm not planning on going vegan any time soon :)
- +1 y
If you don't like it anyway, its easier, I guess.
I'd be vegan but would eat meat that would be wasted if I didn't eat it (then the animal would have suffered in vain).
I had a longterm vegetarian girlfriend. For the most part, they are very self-righteous and obnoxious.
10 Reply1.4K opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. Im not, i used to not like them but now i really dont care. Its their decision, after i dated one its easy to care for her, just not to eat at her house with her alone.

+1 yDon't care, although in my experience most vegans and vegetarians aren't vegans or vegetarians and just say so to add to their lacking personalities. Mind, whenever I say that everyone downvotes me.
20 ReplyVegetarians are fine, though I would never do it. Vegans tend to be obnoxious, preachy crybabies.
Of interesting note: trying to type "crybabies" with swype autocorrects to "Vegans."10 Reply- 401 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic.

+1 yit is not healthy. You need a lot more protein than you can get in a veggie diet. You also need to take a multivitamin if you aren't eating a reasonable amount of meat.

Asker+1 yI didn`t mean from the healthy side. It has been proven that a vegetarian diet prevents many diseases and can provide all the nutrients somebody needs. This is something every doctor suggests.

The FDA sets guidelines based on an industry panel. The fact of the matter is that you can convert protein into carbohydrates but you cannot do the reverse. Your body only needs carbohydrates for energy. Protein creates all the muscle, enzymes and signaling protein that your body needs. You could live on a 100% protein diet (if you ate some meat - you need a phosphorus source) but if you did that with carbs, you would get fat and die. But you sound set in your ways.. A vegetarian diet does not prevent any diseases beyond those that come from vitamin deficiencies like scurvy. I doubt your doc told you that. I had 2 1/2 years of med school and I have a PhD in molecular Biology. I would not imagine a physician recommending a vegetarian diet to anyone. When you dissect the cadavers of vegetarians, you can spot them easily. Their bones look like swiss cheese. It is a very poor diet.
Asker+1 yVegetarians don't eat a diet of only carbs, as they have cheese, milk, eggs as source of protein (although proteins can be found in many vegetables and legumes too). Meat consumption is related with incresing risk of developing cancer and cardiovascular diseases, as you may know, are one of the primary cause of death in western civilization. I've been vegetarians for over 12 years and I get blood tested every year and I can assure you I have no kind of deficiency, and yes, every doctor I've been to, congratulated me for that. And by the way I'm at med school, so I'm not "set in my ways". They're not my ways, it's science. I tell what I've been taught which is clearly different from what you've been taught 20-30 years ago? (I see you're 52) .
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26075652 here is the first article I've found, but I really recommend you to update your knowledge.- +1 y
I am quite current. Your body is your temple. Do with it what you will. n. b. the NIH guidelines are more than 20 years in the past. They represent the input from the manufacturers and producers of dairy, fruits, meats, fast food giants... you won't get an answer there. That is why milk and cheese are on the list even though both are quite unhealthy for you.
I am. tramps probably call me a wuss... but its cool.
