How long does third hand smoke stay on clothes? If I put the clothes on my carpet would the carpet then be contaminated?

it can stick for a long time, sometimes permanent depending on how much exposure, which is why car rental companies and hotels charge you a lot of money to clean up the room if you smoked in it. that's if its smoke-free.

and how are smokers killing non-smokers? if someone is smoking near me I simply move 20 feet away.

Oh don't be silly, it takes about 60 years to kill me and I'm a smoker. The worst you get from third hand smoke is a smell you don't like!!
