I usually start taking Midol as soon as I feel like my cramps/back-pain is so bad it distracts me from being able to put my complete focus on studying.
Once I've got the first round of symptoms under control, I gym it pretty hard core. Sounds counter intuitive, I know, but I find that working out is the best remedy for any and all period-related symptoms. I generally up my workouts a week or so before my period is due and several times, I've been able to go through a whole cycle without taking a single Midol with what I believe to be the exercise keeping my back pain, cramps, bloating, etc. largely at bay. :)

To get ride of period cramps, I use a hot water bottle and place it on my cramp area. It helps ease the pain. You can also take Midol pills to get ride of the pain. I would eat the pills only when the cramps start. Try eating more bananas as it helps with period pains. Also try to eat warm/hot foods and avoid cold foods during your periods as temperature plays a roll in period pains (well as least for me anyways lol). I would also try to avoid caffeine as I find that it worsen the pain ( from my experience).
Hope this helps. :)

Take an ibuprofen before you start having cramps, because why prolong your suffering?
You can also use a hot water bottle.
Gentle exercising (such as going for a walk) can also help with cramping.Smoke some weed, listen to ambient music, get a massage and go to sleep lol
I drink tea air just lay on my stomach! That's all that really helps
A heating pad will definitely help, put where ur having your cramps and the put a blanket over it to keep in the heat. And you should wait til u get cramps because sometimes you might not even get cramps.
