+1 yYeah absolutely! I gained 40 pounds because of depression last year, but thankfully I lost it all again! I know that when you have deep anxiety and depression you don't really think about it, I didn't even notice I was gaining weight until one morning I couldn't fit in all my pants haha!!! But think about it this way, gaining weight will only make you even more depressed! When I lost the weight I gained it made me much happier and helped kick depression's butt once and for all, it gives you a sense of accomplishment and makes you strive for even more achievements :)

+1 yNot always, but It can be a sign of depression. Some people " comfort eat" when they are depressed so they eat more than usual. Others are the opposite. They have no appetite when they are depressed. Food can make them feel nauseous.
If I feel upset or down, I tend to lose my appetite. I just can't eat at all.10 Reply
It's definitely a sign of depression for some people.
To quote Bill from King of the Hill, who was a notoriously depressed character. "I used to eat cookies when I was happy, so now I eat cookies when I'm sad... I don't know what to do, Hank... ALL OF MY EMOTIONS DEMAND COOKIES"20 Reply

I have no idea but I stress eat, meaning I eat, just for the sake of chewing to occupy my mind whenever I'm stressed and don't know what to do about it. However, I think you either gain weight or lose weight when you're going through depression. Anyways, I hope everything works out for you in the end.

+1 ywhen Im depressed I dont eat, I clean lol shitty trait!
I eat a lot of food before my period LIKE even if im not hungry, Ill eat.
You could be just an emotional eater. which is very bad, you use food to comfort yourself.14 Reply- +1 y
as good and delicious as that sounds, dont eat it.
- +1 y
eat an apple :-D
Over-eating is a way to cope with depression. You don't feel depressed when you're eating because it changes your chemical balance in your brain. When you realize you feel good when you eat, you do it again... And again. If you feel like you're over-eating, learn new ways to cope with depression unless you really don't care. This is a normal behavior do not worry :)

+1 yIt can be, so can under-eating or not eating at all. Typically when I'm depressed I eat a lot, or drink a lot. Most times both, but there's really nothing better than a Rusty Nail and a quesadilla made with hard cheddar.

+1 y... or boredom. I've always loved eating, and I've not always been depressed. I do get super hungry when I'm bored. Good thing is I'm on a budget given that I'm a student, so I sometimes don't have anything to eat, that way I don't get fat xD

12 Reply- +1 y
Some stress relief things to keep in mind is using lavender or eucaliptus carrier oils/ lotions, doing yoga, using a aromatic diffuser, talking to someone about your current situation and surprisingly exercising helps too. :)
And yes over eating can be one of the symptoms to depression however there are other reasons to over eating. Other possible reasons would constantly working out, pregnancy or having tape worms in your body. - +1 y
@Curious_Jane I i think my best strategy to relieve stress would be music and walking, with the weather in the seventies this week, should be pleasant enough for sure
